Pop-Up
The challenge of this project was to create a 10’x10’x15’ pop-up on SJSU, utilizing extruding shapes given the dimensions. Designed to be a pop-up on the SJSU campus, Biblio is a place where you can get lost in a good book---literally! The concept for this space was to create a form that resembles a book and welcomes users to step in and explore the world inside. Furthermore, each layer invite users to interact with the space in a different way, to show how dynamic the forms are, simply by extruding shapes.
Renders
Each layer resembles a book of various thickness. Each layer serves the function of rest and a sense of wonder. Users can lay down, look out into the campus, or pick out a book from this pop-up. The forms are inspired by the warm embrace of hug, with soft curves that welcome the user. Furthermore, each layer is slightly off-set and turned to create a sense of movement within the form. On the surface, the materials all reflect a soft color palette of neutrals and rich hues like burgundy and brown. The finishes reflect the feeling of safety and comfort to welcome the user in.
Technical Drawings
The technical drawings for this project were created in SketchUp. The forms were created by extruding shapes and manipulating them to create the desired form. The materials were chosen to reflect the concept of a warm hug, with soft and warm colors and finishes.
